Trouble Booting After SSD Upgrade – Help Needed!

My husband recently upgraded his SSD to a WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe 2TB Gen 4, replacing a 250GB Toshiba that seemed to be a Gen 3. I'm not too tech-savvy, but we've run into some issues. Initially, the BIOS didn't detect the new SSD at all, but I managed to fix that. Now, though, it still alerts us to find the correct boot option and reset. We've been researching how to create a boot USB but are struggling to find a free method since we're on a tight budget after buying the SSD. Any advice on getting this new drive up and running, or tips for making a boot USB with what we have?

Check out the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft; it’s free and can help you create a boot USB easily.

Did you replace the old 256GB SSD with the new 2TB one? Make sure it’s properly seated in the motherboard.

Yes, we've already done that.

Just a heads up—if the operating system was on your old SSD and you took it out, the computer won’t boot without it. Can you let us know what motherboard you’re using? It might allow for both SSDs to be installed at once.

Got it! That should help with troubleshooting. Let’s see what we can do next.

We can't even boot with the old SSD anymore. But we've figured out that it’s a Mogul X99 motherboard.
