Hey folks! I have a MacBook Pro from 2012, running an i5 processor and 16GB of RAM, but I'm facing some boot issues. The internal SSD isn't being detected anymore, so I have to plug it in and start the machine multiple times just to boot into my external SSD. I also installed Linux Mint recently, but the long boot time—around 20 minutes after every reboot—is really frustrating. I'm wondering if I should keep trying to fix this laptop or just invest in a new one. Just to note, my question isn't really about Linux issues specifically. Thanks for your help!

That’s a bummer about your boot issues! If you can, take it to a shop and check if the motherboard might be the problem. I know it’s a hassle, but troubleshooting the SSD and the cable first can help you pinpoint what the real issue is.
Have you considered just swapping out the internal SSD, even just as a test? A new SSD is usually cheaper than a whole new laptop. If cash isn't a concern, though, upgrading to a newer model with more RAM and an NVMe drive could significantly boost your performance!
