I need some assistance getting my WiFi back up and running after a recent incident. About a week ago, construction work across the street caused our modem to pop. My dad managed to get a replacement, but it's just not cooperating with anything. Currently, hardwired connections work for some devices but not for others—things like Google Home and the Nest thermostat are fine, but I can't get my PS5 to connect even when I plug it directly in. We've tried two different routers, including a new one, and neither seems to function properly. The second router is reading a painfully slow 100Kbps download speed, which is essentially unusable. Most devices don't even recognize the connection. I suspect it might be a problem with the modem or possibly the cables outside. My parents are planning to call for help tomorrow, but I'd appreciate any advice in the meantime. I'll update this post as I learn more.

Make sure to check if your new modem has a built-in router. If it doesn't, you can do a speed test by connecting your computer directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable. This can help determine if the issue is with the modem or the routers you're using.
It sounds like some of the cables might be damaged, especially if the internet connection is spotty. Check for any visible fraying or damage to the wires leading to and from the modem.
If the modem literally 'popped,' that could mean it was fried by a power surge, which might have also damaged other electronics in your house, including the PS5 and the routers. It's worth checking other equipment to ensure everything is okay.
Yeah, I wasn't around when it happened, so I couldn't see it myself. I've heard that it either stopped working completely, or it just didn’t connect to the internet anymore. Luckily, my PS5 is running off my phone's hotspot for now.

Unfortunately, it’s just a modem, not a combo unit. That would’ve made things easier.
