Hey everyone, I could really use some help. I'm not the most tech-savvy person, so I apologize if this sounds basic. I have a USB to RJ45 (Ethernet) adapter that I'm trying to connect to my corporate laptop, but it just isn't functioning correctly. I see it in Device Manager as a hidden device named Corechip SR9900 USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter, but I'm having no luck getting it to work. I've looked for drivers online, but since it's a corporate laptop, I'm hesitant about downloading anything that might cause issues. What should I do? Is there a safe way to find the right driver or could the problem be something else?

You might be able to find the drivers through Windows updates. Check out the Microsoft Update Catalog for the Corechip SR9900. It's generally quite safe, and you can get the latest drivers there. Just download the .cab file and unpack it with 7-Zip, then update manually using the .inf file.
If it's a corporate laptop, have you tried reaching out to your IT department? They typically handle these technical issues.
I'm actually the IT admin for my team.
You might consider Googling the adapter's name and downloading drivers directly from a trusted website. Just make sure it's a reputable source to avoid any security issues.
Is that website safe for downloading? I feel a bit lost trying to navigate it.
Be aware that most corporate laptops have restrictions on USB ports to protect data security. It's likely you'll need IT approval to install any drivers on the system. Just something to keep in mind as you proceed.
I get that, but since I am the IT admin, I can request approval without issue. Just want to ensure whatever I download is safe.

Thanks a lot! I'll give that a try.
