Hey everyone! I'm having a pretty rough time with my Windows 11 (24H2) setup and could really use some help. I'm trying to install the cumulative update from July 2025 (KB5062553), but I keep running into the "Install error - 0x80070306". On top of that, I've been hit with repeated Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors featuring the stop code "VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR" since June. This makes it almost impossible to enjoy games like League of Legends because my screen freezes and I only get the option to restart my system.
For a bit of context, my NVIDIA settings are optimized for compatibility and stability, and in-game settings for League are set to Medium with shadows and anti-aliasing turned off.
Here's some system info for reference:
- OS: Windows 11, 24H2
- Laptop: Gigabyte G5 KF-E3US333SH
- Processor: Intel i5-12500H
- RAM: 32GB DDR4
- Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 4060 Mobile (8GB)
- Storage: 1TB Gen4 NVMe SSD
I've already tried a few troubleshooting steps like running DISM and SFC commands (both ran without errors), an in-place upgrade, and contacted Microsoft support several times. Unfortunately, the issues persist.
I'm curious if anyone else has faced the "Install error - 0x80070306" with KB5062553 or has suggestions on how to tackle the BSOD stop code "VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR." Any advice on tools or methods for diagnosing these issues would be appreciated, as would any recommendations for alternative support resources! Thanks a ton for your help!

It sounds like a really frustrating issue you're dealing with. First off, for the BSOD, it's crucial to analyze the dump files. If you haven't done so, check your C:WindowsMinidump folder. Upload any .dmp files you find to a file-sharing site, and we can help analyze them. It's best to get multiple dump files if possible. Also, make sure you've set the dump type to Small Memory Dump for more accurate logs. Hang in there!
It might be worth running an update to your BIOS or checking if there are any known issues with your graphics card that could cause these errors. Sometimes, hardware settings can be causing the BSODs as well. Just make sure to back up your data before making any major changes to the BIOS to be on the safe side!
That makes sense! I’ll look into updating the BIOS. Thanks for the heads up about the backups!
Have you tried doing a System Restore yet? It might help roll back to a stable point in case the update is causing conflicts. Just keep in mind that it's a bit of a last resort if you've exhausted other options. If that doesn't work, you could also try uninstalling the latest graphics drivers and rolling back to a previous version to see if that clears up the BSODs.
Thanks for the advice! I'll check for those dump files and share them for analysis. I appreciate the help!
