Trouble Installing Windows 11 Updates through WSUS

Hey everyone! I'm really stuck here and I'm hoping some of you might have encountered a similar issue. We just deployed a few Windows 11 LTSC 24H2 machines, but for some reason, they're being recognized as Windows 10 LTSC, and no updates are showing up for them.

Here's my setup:
- WSUS is running on Windows Server 2022 (using WID)
- The client machines are Windows 11 Enterprise N LTSC 2024 (build 26100 = 24H2)
- WSUS is synced properly, and I can see that the cumulative updates for 24H2 (like KB5065426 from September 2025) are downloaded and approved.

Now, here's where the problem kicks in:
- The Windows 10 machines get their updates just fine.
- But the Windows 11 machines seem to only receive .NET updates.
- For every CU, WSUS shows "Not Applicable" for the Windows 11 clients despite them being approved and available.
- When I check the update history on the client, nothing comes from WSUS. But when I switch to Microsoft Update, they install immediately.

I've tried quite a few things to fix this:
- Enabled all necessary products and classifications in WSUS.
- Applied some IIS web.config adjustments for UUP.
- Ran a full sync using wsusutil.
- Checked the client registry and verified updates with PowerShell.
- Reset the client settings.
- Made sure the WSUS GPO is applying correctly.
- Tried to correct OS descriptions using a script, which worked temporarily but reverted after the next sync.

So currently, the WSUS console shows that the clients are healthy and have contacted the server, but CUs for 24H2 just won't install from WSUS, even while updates are indicated as needed for Windows 10 machines.

Has anyone figured out a way to resolve this? Am I missing some prerequisite like an SSU or UUP servicing package? Or is WSUS just really not playing nice with Windows 11 24H2? Any help or insights would be super appreciated! Thanks!

If you’re looking to solve the OS description issue, I had success using WSUS Automated Maintenance (WAM) by AJTek. It's a paid tool, but it really cleans things up and can remove unnecessary updates from the database, which might be causing your issues. When I took over a WSUS setup, this kind of cleanup helped my Windows 7 machines receive updates that were previously stuck. Might be worth a try!

I’ve been using WSUS for a long time, and it usually works well with updates from Windows 10 to 11. However, I had one laptop where the hard drive was missing an MSR, which blocked the upgrade. I discovered this when trying a manual install. You might want to check your hard drive partitions—this could be the culprit.

Thanks for the tip! I tried manually installing Windows 11 LTSC, but it still shows no updates available on WSUS.
