I'm having a hard time restoring backups using Rescuezilla. My SSD was marked as having a bad smart status by the BIOS, so I took it to a shop for a second opinion. They also couldn't restore my backups to a different hard drive. I'm wondering what could be causing this issue. Is there something that might prevent backups from restoring successfully, even to a different drive?

One thing to check is whether the test drive or partition you're trying to restore to is large enough to hold the backup. If it's too small, that could definitely cause problems during the restore process.
