I recently purchased a vintage Sony Mavica camera from 1997 that uses floppy disks to store photos. When I try to upload the images to my computer using a USB floppy disk drive and a new floppy disk, I keep getting an error message that says: "A: is not accessible. The disk media is not recognized. It may not be formatted." I can access the files on the disk through the camera, so it seems like the camera can read it just fine. I'm wondering if this issue is related to Windows or if there's something else going on with the floppy drive.

Keep in mind that "new" floppy disks can sometimes be old stock. They lose their properties over time, even if they’re never used. It might be worth trying a different floppy disk if you can find one that’s known to be in good condition!
It sounds like your USB floppy drive might be malfunctioning. With most floppy disks being older, they can really degrade over time, leading to some frustrating issues like this. Make sure the drive itself is functioning correctly; sometimes even new drives can have defects.
I just bought it, so it shouldn’t be faulty, right? Could it just happen that new drives can sometimes arrive broken?

That's a bit disheartening. Are there still reliable floppy disks out there, or should I just look for another solution for my photos?
