Hey everyone! I'm trying to set up Wake on LAN/WAN for my PC, but I'm running into some issues. Here's what I've done so far:
- I configured my MSI motherboard to support WOL.
- I disabled the Windows fast startup feature.
- I set up port forwarding for UDP on port 7 for my computer and assigned a static local IP through my ISP.
- I'm using an app to create rules with both the MAC and local IP as well as the public IP for waking my computer.
Now, here's where I'm stuck:
- It works perfectly fine when I'm on the same Wi-Fi.
- I can wake my PC after it's been shut down for under 2 hours from any network.
- It also wakes up from sleep mode regardless of the network.
However, after the PC has been shut down for more than 2 hours, I can't wake it up from outside my network.
So, I'm wondering:
- Is this an issue with my internet box? Since WOL works in other situations?
- Am I missing any configurations there?
- If I keep my computer in sleep mode instead of shutting it down, is that a bad idea?
Thanks for any help!

It sounds like the WOL packets aren't making it through your router after that couple of hours. Typically, you have to send a WOL magic packet from a device on your local network to wake up your PC. Since you mentioned it works initially, it might relate to how your router handles sleep and shutdown states after some time. You could check the settings that manage sleep or shutdown states on your router, just to be sure they're not interfering.

So is my internet box the one responsible for sending the magic packet? It seems a bit confusing!
