Troubleshooting My Wifi Dongle That Won’t Connect

Hey everyone! I've been using this PC for quite a while now, since around 2016, and I'm starting to think my setup might be outdated. I have an AMD Ryzen 3 2300X quad-core processor paired with a GTX 1050 Ti and 15.93GB of RAM, all in a prebuilt Fierce PC.

Since my CPU doesn't have integrated WiFi, I rely on a TP-Link wifi dongle that I don't have specific details about since it was a gift. It used to work great, providing steady internet speed, and I'd rotate between that and my Ethernet connection. However, lately, it won't connect to any networks. It can detect them, but when I try to connect, it often just disconnects after a few minutes.

I've recently upgraded to fiber optic internet, and I'm wondering if the dongle is too outdated to keep up with the new network standards. Any tips or help would be super appreciated!

Have you tried uninstalling the dongle via Device Manager and then plugging it into another USB port? Ideally, it should go into a port closer to the motherboard. Also, if you could find out the model of your dongle, it might require specific drivers to work properly.

Considering your recent upgrade, it's very likely that the dongle is outdated. Newer network hardware might not be compatible with older devices.

Just to clarify, your motherboard is what connects wirelessly, not your CPU. I’d suggest checking your access points to make sure they’re working properly. Try connecting the dongle to different access points to rule out any issues on that end.
