Hey everyone! I'm trying to wrap my head around the AM5 motherboards, specifically the B series. Are the B650 boards considered the entry-level, with B840 being a step up, and B850 having the most features? If I find a B850 board at the same price as a B650 but with all the ports and features I need, should I go for the B850? I'm planning to pair it with a 9600X CPU.

Just a heads up! A620 and B840 are entry-level, while B650 and B850 are mid-range. The B850 comes with mandatory PCIe 5.0 support which is great for future-proofing. Even within the same chipset, you'll find variations in quality and features, so make sure the board you pick has everything you need for your 9600X.

B650 did hit the market first before the B840 and B850. The newer B850 has stricter quality standards, so while some B650 boards were alright, you had to be careful since some were pretty lackluster. B840 is really just a budget version of B850 with fewer features. If you’re looking to have a solid build, go for the B850!

To clarify, both the B650 and B850 are designed for AM5. I’m using a B650-S wifi with my 9600X and it's great, but if you can afford the B850, it’s a smarter choice for enhancing stability and performance. Definitely worth considering if the price is right!

Absolutely! The first number in the motherboard series indicates the generation. So, B650 is mid-range, while B840 and B850 are newer models. If you find a B850 at the same price as a B650 and it has all the features you're after, I’d definitely lean towards the B850. Newer boards generally mean better reliability and features, especially when it comes to VRMs, which are crucial for stability, especially with CPUs like the 9600X.
