Upgraded My PC But Now Get Worse FPS, What Could Be Wrong?

I recently upgraded my PC, swapping out my i5-8600k for an i9-11900k and upgrading my GPU from a 2070 Super to a 5080. However, after playing Roblox with my younger sibling, I'm puzzled to find that my FPS has dropped significantly compared to before the upgrade. I went from around 80 FPS to just 56. How is this even possible?

You've got a lot of variables at play here—a clean Windows install is often recommended after a major CPU upgrade, and don’t forget that Nvidia drivers can sometimes be problematic. Use monitoring software like HWInfo to keep tabs on CPU and GPU temperatures and usage while playing, to help diagnose the issue.

It's possible that the drop in FPS could be related to single-core performance or clock speeds. Did you also upgrade your PSU? That could cause issues too.

Yeah, I got a Lian Li Edge 1000W PSU, so power shouldn't be a problem.

Have you checked if there’s an FPS cap in the Roblox settings? Sometimes, it can be set lower than you expect. Also, monitor your GPU usage to see if it's being utilized properly.

I'm running it uncapped at 240 FPS, but it’s only hitting around 56, so something's off.

First, double-check that your monitor is plugged into the new GPU, not the onboard graphics. Surprisingly, many people overlook this after upgrades!

I've made that mistake, but I switched to a second monitor, so I’m good now. Just checking, but my screen is definitely connected to the GPU.

Make sure to enable XMP in the BIOS with your new setup. Download MSI Afterburner or a similar tool to monitor performance and check if your GPU usage is high when gaming. Typically, you shouldn’t see lower FPS unless something is configured incorrectly or there’s a hardware issue.

I'll definitely try MSI Afterburner and see what metrics it shows.
