I'm currently using an AM4 platform with a 2x8GB kit of CL16 3600MHz RAM. I'm considering whether I should buy another identical kit to upgrade to 4x8GB or switch to a 2x16GB CL18 3600MHz kit. Would there be any performance loss if I go for the 4x8GB setup with the same model? Also, do all motherboards support dual rank memory configurations? I couldn't find any explicit information on the motherboard's website.

The type of RAM you choose can impact your performance. Generally, matching your existing 4x8GB kit could give you better performance on AM4 platforms, especially if the new kit has the same specs. However, if your 2x16GB option is dual rank, that might outperform the 4x8GB in certain tasks. It's worth checking the manufacturer's details to be sure about the ranking.
Do you have any tips on discovering if my RAM is dual rank? The site doesn't specify anything.
