Upgrading from a 2TB SSD to a 4TB SSD: Can I transfer my data easily?

Hey everyone! I'm not super tech-savvy when it comes to building PCs, but I'm looking to upgrade my desktop. Currently, I have four 2TB NVMe SSDs that mostly hold my games. I'm thinking of swapping one of them out for a new 4TB SSD.

Here's my question: Can I transfer all my game folders and data from the 2TB SSD to the new 4TB SSD without running into trouble? Some of my games have mods and reshaders, so I want to make sure everything transfers smoothly.

Also, how would the store handle this transfer, given both the old and new SSDs need to be in my PC at the same time? I read a bit about cloning but I'm not sure what kind of software they would have to do that. Any advice would be appreciated!

Absolutely, data is data! As long as you move everything over correctly, it should work exactly the same as before. Just make sure to double-check everything after the transfer.

You could also just reinstall Windows. Cloning between drives of different sizes can sometimes create problems, and a fresh install might be quicker and easier overall. If your Windows is on the existing drive, you could keep it there and use the new SSD as an additional storage.

Yes, you can transfer your data without issues. Keep in mind that if you're using Steam, you might need to create a new library path for the new SSD. However, if something goes wrong, it's wise to have a backup since you might end up needing to reinstall games. One easy method is to remove one of the 2TB drives that's not your boot drive, install the new 4TB drive, and then copy over the files. After that, put the drive back in and repeat the process.

To answer your question directly, yes, you can transfer from a 2TB SSD to a 4TB SSD! However, you might encounter some issues depending on how the transfer is done. It's usually best to clone the drive so all your data, including mods and settings, come along properly.

Cloning is definitely the best way to do it. There are quite a few free cloning applications out there that can help make the process smooth. Just find one with good reviews!
