Upgrading from a 5700G to a 9070XT: What CPU Should I Choose?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 5700G and I've just ordered a 9070XT, which should arrive soon. I know the 5700G has a smaller cache compared to other Ryzen models, but upgrading to a better CPU is a bit tricky right now due to high prices. I found a used 5700X3D for about 450 CAD and a used 5800X3D for around 625 CAD. Alternatively, I can get a new 5800X for 272 CAD. I'd like advice on whether upgrading to AM5 is worth the price of DDR5 right now, or if I should stick with AM4 for a while longer and get the best possible CPU to future-proof my system.

Have you checked the prices for other CPUs in the 5000 series? The 5700X and 5800X are solid options, too. Honestly, I think the performance difference might not justify the price for the X3D models. I bought my 5700X3D for a much better deal last year and wouldn't spend that much right now.

The 5800X is going for about 290 CAD, and honestly, it’s basically a slightly faster version of the 5800 with some extra headroom for overclocking. The 5700X is also cheaper at 250 CAD. With the 5700G, you might be feeling the limits due to its 16MB cache compared to the 32MB in the others. Plus, it's on PCIe 3.0, which can be a bottleneck.

What resolution do you plan to game at? Have you considered overclocking the 5700G?

I’m gaming at 1440p 165Hz right now. I haven’t overclocked the 5700G yet, but I don’t think I want to stick with it. The lack of PCIe 4.0 support and the smaller cache are big drawbacks for me.
