I currently have a Ryzen 7 7800X3D set up with an MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard, and I'm considering an upgrade to the 9950X3D. I'm pretty sure everything is compatible, but I want to know if there's anything that could go wrong during the upgrade. Also, I'm running an 850-watt PSU paired with an RTX 4080 Super Founders Edition. Will this PSU be sufficient for the 9950X3D? Lastly, my cooling solution is a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE, which has been doing a great job keeping my CPU cool, even with -20 PBO settings. Do I need to upgrade anything related to cooling, or can I just swap the CPU?

If you're editing videos and using intensive programs like DaVinci Resolve and Blender, having more cores will definitely help! Your cooling setup sounds solid, but keep an eye on temps after the upgrade. If you notice it struggling, then you can think about upgrading later. For now, just the CPU swap should be fine!
Yeah, just swap the CPU, and see how it performs before upgrading anything else. You might be pleasantly surprised!
Honestly, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D should work just fine on your B650 motherboard. If your current setup is compatible, you’re likely in the clear. Just make sure your BIOS is updated to the latest version before making the swap. As for the PSU, 850 watts is usually plenty for your setup, especially with the power draw of the 9950X3D being manageable. You should be good there!
Thanks for that! Good to know I won’t have to stress over the power supply.
And yeah, definitely update the BIOS first; I've heard it makes a big difference.
Totally agree! More cores will really speed things up for video editing.
