Upgrading My 9-Year-Old PC for Windows 11: Need Hardware Recommendations

I'm currently using an older PC that's about 9 years old and is starting to run out of support with Windows 10 updates. I found out through a health check that my AMD Ryzen 7 1700 processor doesn't support TMP 2.0 required for Windows 11. I have 32 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB graphics card. I built this PC myself back when I was studying architecture, and now I'm looking for hardware upgrades to use it for both professional work and gaming. I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade the CPU without having to replace the entire system and what other hardware upgrades I should consider, especially for my graphics card. Any suggestions?

Definitely check if your motherboard can support a 5000 series CPU. Those 5600X and 5800X options can work wonders! Just make sure you update the BIOS first. The used market is great for finding good deals too!

There are so many options out there! The Ryzen 9 series is excellent, but for gaming specifically, the Ryzen 7 series offers fantastic value without breaking the bank. For detailed compatibility, try PC Part Picker to find the right setup for your upgrades!

Wow, thanks! It’s a bit overwhelming, but I appreciate the advice!

If your motherboard has the right support, upgrading to a 5000 series could be the way to go. Make sure to check if you need a new PSU as well, especially if yours is over 5 years old—better safe than sorry!

What motherboard do you have? If it’s compatible, you might be able to upgrade your CPU to a 5000 series after doing a BIOS update. Also, please share your budget and specific usage needs so that we can suggest the best options!

That was my first thought too! But remember, if you stick with the same motherboard, the TPM issue is still a concern, which might still keep you on Windows 10.

I have an ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS motherboard. I'm aiming for a mid-range build and looking to upgrade within a budget of 50k, which includes both CPU and graphics card. I might also need a new case, so added expenses are a worry.
