Upgrading My CPU and GPU: What Should I Keep in Mind?

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of upgrading my rig and I could use some advice. I'm installing a new Ryzen 7 5800XT CPU along with a compatible cooler and an INNO3D GeForce RTX 3060 Ti for my graphics. I'm currently working with an ASUS ROG STRIX B550F-GAMING (WIFI) motherboard. I've got a basic plan, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything critical.

Here's what I have on my to-do list:
- Update the BIOS before removing my current CPU.
- Install the new CPU, cooler, and GPU.
- Reinstall Windows and install the necessary drivers (should I preload them?).

Also, I'm a bit confused about which drivers to choose. Should I go for the latest ones, or are there specific versions that are more stable? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

For upgrading from AMD to NVIDIA, make sure you completely uninstall the AMD drivers with DDU before swapping in your new GPU. After that, go ahead and install the NVIDIA drivers. They’ve got some good recommendations currently—look into version 566.36 for the best performance.

I did the same when switching GPUs and it made a huge difference! Do it right and your gaming experience will be smooth.

You usually don’t need to reinstall Windows for a CPU and GPU upgrade, unless you're looking for a fresh start. But always update your BIOS first and then go ahead with the installation. You can install the latest NVIDIA driver after setting everything up. It’s generally reliable!

Honestly, I recommend starting with a fresh Windows install after your upgrades. It feels like you have a brand new computer! Just remember to update the BIOS before touching anything else. And definitely grab the latest drivers for the RTX series to ensure the best performance.

Definitely make sure to update your BIOS first, and do it before you take out the old CPU. That way, you can check that everything is working fine before moving on with the installation. You can use the BIOS software utility to do the update.

Yeah, updating first gives you peace of mind. Just follow the steps in your motherboard manual to avoid any hiccups!
