Upgrading My CPU: Should I Go for Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 9 5900X in my setup and I've got some budget to play with for an upgrade. I'm looking at bundles from Micro Center, specifically one with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and another with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I don't mind spending a little more for the 9800, but I'm also open to other recommendations that aren't just these two options. Just to note, I'm okay with changing out my motherboard and RAM if needed.

Both of those options are fantastic for gaming. I'm actually building a rig with the 7800X3D right now, and I can tell you that the CPU performance is way better than what I had before. However, if you really want to focus on CPU-intensive games, the 9800X3D could be a better long-term investment. It really just depends on your gaming style.

I mainly play a lot of single-player games and find my 4070Ti quite capable, but I'm looking for a CPU upgrade because of the gameplay demands in titles like Helldivers 2. Do you think the 7800 would still suffice?

Totally! If your games are running fine now, the 7800 should be a noticeable speed boost, and you can save that extra cash for upgrades elsewhere.

If you're considering those options, the 7800X3D bundle is really solid because it's almost as fast as the 9800X3D but usually cheaper. Micro Center bundles are great for gaming builds! Just check out the benchmarks, and you’ll see the performance is impressive without breaking the bank.

So would you suggest saving the extra cash for the 9800 and just going with the 7800?

Absolutely! Unless you're aiming for the highest possible performance for specific CPU-heavy games, the 7800 might be all you need.

Considering your budget, I'd actually recommend looking at either the 7600X3D or the 9800X3D bundle. The 7800X3D is kind of sitting at a weird price point. Just a quick question: what's your full budget, and what are you working with GPU-wise?

I'm looking to spend up to around $700 for the bundle. I've got a 4070Ti, and I'm mostly focused on getting better CPU performance rather than graphic improvements.

What exactly do you use your PC for? Those two CPUs are top-tier for gaming right now!

My entire setup is pretty much dedicated to gaming. I just want to make sure I'm making the right choice between the 7800 and the 9800.
