Upgrading My PSU: Need Some Guidance!

Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 9 9950X3D for improved productivity, and I also have an RTX 4080 OC. I've heard that my current 850W PSU (be quiet pure power 12 M) might not be sufficient for this setup. I'm considering switching to a 1000W PSU, but I've never built a PC before, so I'm a bit intimidated. Any tips or advice on how to go about this?

Upgrading your PSU is pretty straightforward! Just unplug all the cables from your old PSU, take it out, and install the new one. Make sure to plug in all the new PSU cables. There are lots of helpful video tutorials on YouTube that can walk you through the process. Just a heads up: if your new PSU is modular, don't try to reuse the old cables with it. They can have different pinouts, and mixing them up could cause some serious issues!

If you're already using the 850W PSU, you might be fine with that! The combined power draw of your CPU and GPU should be around 500W, leaving plenty of room for the rest of your system. If you do decide to upgrade, definitely go for a quality 1000W PSU. When swapping out the old PSU, make sure to disconnect everything carefully and use the cables that come with your new PSU, since using old cables can lead to potential problems.

Your 850W PSU should actually be adequate for your setup, as your system will likely pull around 705W at most, even under heavy load. However, upgrading to a bigger PSU isn't necessarily a bad idea, especially if you plan on expanding your setup in the future. Just keep in mind that the PSU you have is a Tier A model, so it's definitely worth considering sticking with it if you’re not having any issues.
