I'm planning to upgrade my system to a new 9800X3D and a 5080, but I'm curious about how much of an improvement I can expect over my current setup. I built a mid-high end PC in June 2020 with a 9700K and a 2070 Super, which has served me well. However, I'm starting to notice performance drops, especially in games like Rust and Tarkov, even on low settings at 1080p. Now that the new 50 series GPUs are available at MSRP, I want to start fresh. How will this upgrade improve my gaming experience, especially since I plan to game at 1440p?

I made a similar upgrade from an i9 9900K and a 2080 Ti to the 9800X3D and 5080, and the improvement was significant! I’m now consistently hitting the max refresh rate on my monitor while playing at 1440p with minimal CPU load. Totally worth it!
I had the same setup you had and switched to a 4080 and 9800X3D a few months back. The difference was enormous. Honestly, I wish I had done it sooner. Even with my preference for high FPS at 1440p, I think going for the 80 series was a bit extra for my needs, but no regrets here!
I get that! But going for the 80 series can really future-proof your setup for the next few years, especially at 1440p.
