Upgrading to a New GPU But Getting Lower FPS—Why?

I recently upgraded my GPU from a 3080 Ti to a 5070 Ti. My girlfriend has the same CPU and RAM as me, and she built a new PC with a 5070 and a 12700KF. We both have identical game settings and Nvidia control panel settings, yet I'm getting about 30 fps lower than her. Her GPU usage hits 100% consistently, while mine is around 70% during gameplay. I'm really puzzled and frustrated. Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening?

You might want to double-check if you’re plugged into the GPU's video port rather than the motherboard's. Also, are both of you using the same monitor resolution? If not, that could explain the performance difference.

Just throwing this out there: what are your RAM settings? Are they at the MHz they’re rated for, or defaulting to something like 2133? And make sure your GPU is seated properly in the top PCIe slot. It wouldn't hurt to check for any BIOS updates either.

Do you guys have the same monitor model? Sometimes settings can differ, especially if one of you is using a different resolution or refresh rate. I think both of you need to be on 1440p for a fair comparison.

First things first, have you completely uninstalled your old drivers using DDU and then reinstalled the latest ones via the Nvidia app? Also, check if you’re both using the same monitor resolution—are you plugged into the GPU directly?

Also, remember to check your display settings—if it's set to 60Hz and Vsync is active, that could be capping your FPS. But if you have both set to your monitors' refresh rates and Vsync off, then the issue might lie elsewhere.
