What are Gnome Extensions and How Do They Work?

I'm new to Gnome and have come from a different desktop environment. I'm trying to understand if Gnome "extensions" are the way to add functionalities to the Gnome desktop. For example, in my previous desktop, I could just right-click the main bar and add more clocks. In Gnome, it seems like to achieve that or to adjust gamma (especially on Wayland), I need to find specific extensions. Can anyone confirm if extensions are indeed Gnome's way of adding extra features to the interface?

Check out the Gnome extensions website: https://extensions.gnome.org/. Extensions are indeed meant to enhance the functionality of the desktop environment. So yes, you’re spot on!

It really depends on the distribution you're using. Some, like Fedora, come with a more basic version of Gnome, meaning you'll have to install extensions yourself to get extra features. You can make some tweaks through the built-in settings or by using 'Gnome Tweaks.' Are you looking for anything specific, or are you just exploring what Gnome has to offer?
