What Are Good Alternatives to GoDaddy for Domain Registration?

I've started a new job and I'm looking to improve our domain management practices. Currently, we're using GoDaddy for both domain registration and DNS, but I'm planning to move our DNS to Azure. I also want to switch our domain registrar to something that's more reliable and offers features like multiple admin accounts and good multi-factor authentication options, beyond just SMS. Any recommendations?

We’ve had some play with AWS for DNS, but found the security setup a bit convoluted. Gandi was great but their prices crept up. UltraDNS was also nice but pricing became a concern for us too.

That’s true of enterprise tools! They often come with more complexity, but Route 53 is pretty straightforward if you grasp AWS's IAM.

Amazon Route 53 is a solid choice for domain registration and DNS management. It's pretty tough to beat their reliability and performance! However, I get that you want to keep everything on Azure, so you might want to consider if setting up an AWS account just for registration is worth it.

Yeah, I see your point. I just want to avoid the hassle of managing multiple cloud services if I can.

Does Azure not have its own domain registrar? I'm curious about your concern with separating DNS and registration, but I totally agree GoDaddy isn’t the best. You might want to look into AWS for Registration and keep Azure as the nameserver if you stick with Azure for DNS.

I know Azure offers limited domain registration, but I feel safer separating the two after past issues with them being bundled together.

I've used Openprovider for our company’s domains. They have a good variety of TLDs and reasonable pricing if you have multiple domains. Just be aware that they require a balance in your account for purchases.

I really like CloudFlare for domain registration! They offer great security features, but I’m not sure about multiple user accounts. You might want to check that out if you're considering them.

Good call! I have my personal domains with CloudFlare, but I haven’t used any features for multiple users before.
