I've been having severe issues with my Lenovo Legion laptop lately, as it keeps rebooting unexpectedly every few minutes to hours. I tried transferring my files to an external hard drive, but the laptop doesn't stay on long enough for me to do that. The reliability monitor is also showing several blue screen errors related to the motherboard. A local repair shop confirmed that the motherboard is failing and suggested I should look for a new laptop. They quoted me $225 for data recovery, which feels a bit pricey compared to what I've paid in the past. I'm curious if that quote is reasonable and if there are any methods I can use to recover my data myself. Additionally, is it possible to replace the motherboard on these Legion laptops, and would that be worth it?

If your hard drive is still functional, you might be in luck! You can remove the drive from your laptop and get an external enclosure or adapter (it should be either 2.5" SATA or m.2 NVMe/SATA depending on your model). Just connect it to another working computer to access your files. If the drive is encrypted and you're using BitLocker, make sure you have your recovery key. That repair quote seems a bit high for a healthy drive, but could be a fair price if the drive is damaged.

That seems pretty straightforward. The repair shop didn’t mention anything about the health of my drive. Is there a chance it could be failing too? Any specific enclosure or adapter you’d recommend?
