I'm looking for a backup solution that doesn't require me to keep over a third of my hard drive space free just to perform a single backup. I'm using POP_OS 22.04 on a System76 laptop, and currently, I'm not backing up to any external media because I'm unable to afford it right now. Are there any good alternatives?

Have you considered using btrfs snapshots? They can be pretty efficient in managing space while providing backup capabilities.
Not exactly a direct match for Deja Dup, but Borg is definitely worth trying. It's quite an effective backup system, and it might suit your space requirements without needing extra hard drive space.
You might want to check out Vorta if you're looking for something a bit different. It's a graphical front end for Borg, and it allows for more customized backups to your NAS or even a USB drive, saving storage space compared to full backups. I use it for various profiles depending on my needs!
