Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on tools I can use to practice KQL (Kusto Query Language) without breaking the bank. I had some experience with KQL during my internship and want to keep my skills sharp. Are there any free or low-cost options available? Thanks in advance!

Just a heads up—when I tried using the smallest cluster, it started racking up charges really fast. Documentation wasn't clear on combining it with the free cluster, which was a headache.

As long as my card isn't linked it should be fine?

Check out kc7cyber.com. It's a bit security-oriented but has a lot of KQL resources you might find useful.

Oh! It's security focused. That will be very helpful, thanks!

Have you tried the KQL Detective Agency? It's a fun, gamified platform where you can sharpen your KQL skills in a more interactive way.

Looks fun! I'll give it a shot.

You can check out the free cluster from Azure Data Explorer. Performance might be spotty, but it's decent for experimenting. Plus, you can run the KQL engine locally using a Docker container if that sounds good to you!

Thanks for the tip!

You could also use perplexity. Just type your question in natural language, and it’ll generate the KQL for you. For me, it's been super helpful! But if you want to get comfortable with KQL itself, practicing is a good call.

I'll definitely use it from time to time, but I just need to brush up on my KQL knowledge itself to show employers that I know the language itself. ha ha
