I'm looking to replace two SuperMicro storage servers that currently have over 40 drives, and I need around 400TB of usable storage. While upgrading to newer SuperMicro models is an option, I'm wondering what other alternatives people have chosen. We're predominantly a Dell shop, and I noticed Dell had similar solutions a few years back, but I can't seem to find those options now. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I've had really good luck with HPE storage arrays. They offer solid performance and reliability, though I haven’t used their storage servers specifically. I'm definitely interested to know how pricing is holding up for that 400TB of storage, especially with everything going up recently.
We recently switched to using HPE gear. I also set up HPE DAC shelves with their servers and had a decent run with a Lenovo setup. Cisco UCS S3260 was another option I explored, but I heard they’re phasing that out.
You might consider Dell's Unity or PowerScale for dedicated NAS solutions. From my experience, NetApp products have also been widely used, although some have opted for Pure storage solutions instead.
It really depends on your specific needs like performance and connectivity. For instance, the Dell PowerVault ME5284 is a great option with capacity for 84 drives. If you're referring to older models, maybe it was the Dell XE7100 you saw, which had significant drive capacity too.
Now’s not a great time to buy storage since prices have surged due to RAM shortages. If you're looking for alternatives, this might be worth waiting on or exploring secondhand options.
