I'm looking to switch from my old Windows 7 setup with Kodi because it hasn't worked well for me on Windows 10. I've recently upgraded to Linux Mint and need a media player that can handle my stored MP3 and MP4 files. I'm not interested in live TV or repositories. Is Kodi still a good option for just stored media, or are there alternatives that offer better aesthetics and functionality?

You could try Haruna or Elisa from KDE for a more polished look. But honestly, if you're just looking for a player that gets out of the way, VLC is still a go-to. And if you want to stick with Kodi, they do have an official flatpak version you can try out.
Kodi has some great plugins for organizing and rating your media, which makes it easier to maintain your collection. If you're planning to set it up in a home theater, I find it superior to Plex for that purpose.
While Kodi is a solid choice, you might want to check out VLC. It plays nearly everything, but its interface won't match Kodi's slickness. If aesthetics are important, that could be a downside.
I run Jellyfin with a browser interface, and it works well for me. Plus, my Roku can stream content from it, which is a bonus if you have similar devices.
