What are some good alternatives to Linux Mint XFCE?

I've been using Linux Mint XFCE on a few older computers, and I love it! I'm even considering switching my main computer to Linux. While I'm happy to stick with Mint, I think this could be a great chance to explore some other distros. Can anyone suggest lightweight and simple Linux distributions that work well out of the box, similar to Mint XFCE?

Based on what you like about Mint, you might enjoy Debian since it’s what Mint is built on, so it’ll feel familiar. Fedora is also a good option for a distro that works out of the box. If you're feeling adventurous, Arch could be an option too, especially if you already have some command line experience.

XFCE is just a desktop environment, so it’s available in various Linux distributions like Debian and Fedora. You can test any distro using a LiveUSB without installing it first. If you're interested in trying something lighter, check out MATE, LXDE, or LXQt as alternative desktop environments. Fedora has some cool 'spins' available too! For easy swapping between distros, Ventoy is a great tool to look into.

CachyOS with XFCE could be a nice fit for you! It’s user-friendly and lightweight.

Have you considered Mint’s other flavors like Cinnamon or MATE? They're both solid options with similar functionality and a familiar feel.

Check out the distro selection page on our wiki for more detailed options! Also, take regular backups, and if you're testing new distros, use a VM first. A friendly reminder: always understand a command before hitting Enter!
