I'm looking for a way to communicate with my 80-year-old mother, who lives alone on another continent. I sent her a Windows laptop with Skype, but after the upgrade to Teams, her camera shuts down during calls, and I can't seem to fix it. She doesn't have a smartphone, just a basic phone, and she struggles with touch screens due to Parkinson's. Is there a Skype alternative that I can install on her laptop? Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Have you tried using a web-based solution? There's this site called sipML5 that lets you make calls through a browser. It's pretty straightforward!
You might want to check out Discord or Telegram. Discord could work better for your situation since you can set it up on the laptop without needing a smartphone. Just make sure she's comfortable using it!
Thanks for the suggestion! I heard Telegram needs a phone for the initial setup, so I'll definitely look into Discord.
I built a service called Globaldial.co specifically for situations like yours. It allows you to make international calls from your browser without installing anything. You buy credits that never expire, perfect for keeping in touch with family!
I appreciate that! But it seems like that's just phone calls. We already have audio working through Teams, so I'm comparing rates with something like Viber.
Thanks! I'm a bit confused about the login page, though. Is it just a demo or a product requires registration?
