I have some older components just gathering dust, and I'm wondering what I can do with them. I'm particularly interested in setting up something for streaming with Stremio and possibly a media box, even thinking about a Pi-hole. Right now, the focus is mainly on getting Stremio up and running.
Here are the parts I'm working with: an 8700k processor with a motherboard, and 32GB of RAM. I just need a cooler and a power supply to get started. I'm currently letting a friend borrow my old 1080 ti, but I do have an old GTX 670 as a backup.
It's been ages since I've used a Linux distro, like back in 2008, so I'm pretty out of touch with what's available today. Any recommendations or thoughts on the best path forward?

You might want to consider a really lightweight distro with a minimal desktop environment, like CachyOS with LXQt. It’s a solid choice for older hardware and should work well for your needs.
For your setup, I think a lightweight distro like Mint or MX Linux would do great. They both are user-friendly, and MX, in particular, has some nice tools for older hardware.
Any notable differences between the two, especially in terms of security? I don't have a lot of experience with Linux and how it addresses security threats these days.

Sounds like just what I need! I also have a basic 128GB SSD I can use. I’ll look into that.
