Backup Exec has been discontinued, and I'm looking for suggestions on what to migrate to for our backup solution. We have a large amount of data—about 500TB—and we utilize around 20TB for 40 virtual machines. Unfortunately, Veeam isn't a feasible option due to their steep pricing, which is significantly higher than what Backup Exec charged. Any recommendations for on-site solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Before you make a decision, it might help to categorize your data. Knowing if it's structured or unstructured can guide you to the right vendor. For instance, if most of it is just file system data, there could be cheaper options than Veeam that could suit your needs without unnecessary bells and whistles.
We’ve been using Rubrik lately, which has worked well for us. They offer an on-site appliance that's easy to manage, and it connects to cloud controls. Plus, keep in mind that pricing for new systems is through the roof right now due to high demand, so act fast!
Have you checked out Cohesity or Veritas for their NetBackup options? They could provide a reliable path forward if you're looking to transition away from Backup Exec. Just a thought!
If you're considering an alternative, Commvault is worth a look. They provide solid backup solutions, and although there are costs involved, it might be more manageable than Veeam. However, don’t cut corners on backups; investing a little more can save a lot of headaches down the line!
Yeah, totally agree! It’s just hard when budgets are already tight. I get the need for a balance between cost and security.
You might also look at BackupChain if tape support isn't crucial for you. We ditched tape with them, and it’s been a smooth transition.

Great point! It’s easy to overlook when diving into the options and pricing.
