Hi everyone! I'm new to designing SVGs and digital art in general. Although I'm not a designer yet, I'm eager to learn. Unfortunately, I can't afford Adobe Illustrator right now, so I'm searching for a free or affordable alternative that is user-friendly and effective for producing clean, usable SVGs—primarily for web and development purposes. What beginner-friendly tools would you recommend for long-term use? Thanks for your help!

If you're open to paid options, I highly recommend Affinity Designer. It's a one-time purchase and often goes on sale for around $70. The UI is similar to Illustrator, making it easy to use, and it even includes a simple raster editor. I've been using it for years and haven’t felt the need for anything more!

Inkscape is a solid choice for creating SVGs. It's open-source and quite powerful, though it may have a bit of a learning curve at first. Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it's definitely worth it for long-term use. Plus, there are plugins that can make it feel more user-friendly, similar to Illustrator.

Figma has been useful for us when working on SVGs. It's not free but does offer free tiers for basic use. It’s web-based and collaborative, making it a good option if you’re working with a team.

For something web-based and affordable, check out boxy-svg.com. It’s only about $10 a year and fast to use, plus you can easily copy the SVG markup and save files without hassle.

If you're looking for a straightforward tool, try using the SVG path editor at yqnn.github.io. It's simple and gets the job done, especially for making icons!
