What Are the Best Job Boards for Remote Infrastructure and Systems Engineer Positions?

I'm on the hunt for new remote opportunities as a Senior Systems Engineer. It's been almost 8 years since I last looked for a job, and clearly, the job market has changed a lot! My background includes managing infrastructure components like networking, VPNs, Microsoft tools, and cloud platforms (AWS and Azure). Although I do a ton of automation with PowerShell, I'm not involved in programming or databases. I feel stuck at my current salary and need to explore better financial opportunities without moving out of my high-cost area. While I've been checking out Indeed, I'm not seeing many suitable remote positions, and the pay info often seems lacking. I'd love recommendations for job boards that might have better leads for remote systems and infrastructure roles.

r/hiringcafe is a great resource for job searches! I’ve been using it to find positions and it seems to have better leads compared to regular boards.

I’ve been recommending this subreddit to everyone too! It's been super helpful for my job hunt.

Yeah, I definitely agree on that one. I found some cool job postings there!

After a long stretch of unemployment, I’m wary to say this job market is difficult. I sent out hundreds of applications and got only a handful of interviews for remote jobs. Be prepared for the possibility that you might need to take a job that’s not ideal, like the hybrid position I settled for after all that searching.

When searching for jobs, try to look beyond just the well-known job sites. Places like networking in your community or applying directly to companies can yield better results since you'll be dealing with a smaller candidate pool. Even if it takes more time, consider pursuing direct applications where candidates aren't competing on a global scale.

That’s solid advice! But how do you even find those lesser-known companies?

JobSeeker2019 -

You can search local business directories or even LinkedIn to find companies in your target area!

Direct applications often work best. At your experience level, consider connecting with a recruiter on LinkedIn; that method has landed me 3 jobs this way. Cold messaging works, so don’t hesitate to reach out to recruiters.

You're facing some tough winds! It's not just about finding remote work; it's a challenging market for tech jobs overall. Have you thought about upskilling? Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or configuration management tools could widen your job prospects significantly. Companies are increasingly looking for candidates who can manage infrastructure as code (IaC) and have automation skills.

CloudChaser15 -

True! I know some organizations won’t even consider candidates who lack automation skills. Adding those tools to your resume might really help.

Upskilling is key—look into platforms that offer online courses to help you get those skills!

You've got a tough situation considering how many applicants are after the same roles you want. Jobs in tech are really competitive right now, and many companies are hiring low-cost foreign workers, which can hurt opportunities for local talent. I’d caution against leaving your current position without a solid backup plan since many companies are seeing hundreds of applicants for even entry-level roles. It's really an employer's market right now!

Totally agree! I just saw my company post a decent helpdesk job and got swamped with applications. It feels risky leaving a stable job without knowing how the job hunt will pan out.

Yeah, but OP might want to look for a second remote job while keeping the current one. It’s a good way to test the waters!
