I'm thinking about switching from Windows to Linux and could use some recommendations on which distributions are the best for someone like me. I've dabbled with Ubuntu for C++ programming, and I'm comfortable using the command line, but I also spend a lot of time on YouTube and play games on Steam, including some idle games with executables. I'm looking for options that focus on performance but don't require me to be overly immersed in technical details.

You might want to look into Zorin OS. It's designed specifically for users transitioning from Windows, so it should feel familiar and be easy to pick up.

I personally use Fedora KDE for both gaming and DevOps, and honestly, I couldn't be happier! It's been a smooth experience for my needs.

For those with NVIDIA cards, I've had great success with Bazzite KDE. It handled multiple monitors and gaming without any drama and works out of the box pretty well.

If you're focused on high performance, CachyOS is worth checking out. It's based on Arch, so it might have some setup complexities, but it prioritizes performance.

I recommend giving Fedora a try! It's great for both coding and gaming, especially if you use Lutris or Steam through Flatpak. Just keep an eye out for some minor issues, especially if you're on an AMD GPU. If you're open to lighter desktop environments, that can also help with performance.
