What are the best remote monitoring tools for client networks?

I'm currently facing the challenge of monitoring remote networks for clients and reporting on any devices that go down. Right now, we use PRTG, but I'm hitting a wall with its performance limits regarding how many agents can run on a server core before it struggles. I'm testing Nagios XI, which has a lot of customization, but I'm finding the way to configure passive checks way more complicated than my team is used to. I'm looking for a solution that allows me to install an agent on a remote machine and manage the monitoring setup from the server side. I'd really appreciate it if the tool also provided an API for bulk creating sensors—dealing with 50+ ping sensors in PRTG manually was quite painful, so I even had to write a script to automate it based on an Excel sheet.

I really like using Zabbix; it has extensive templates for easier management and monitoring. Have you tried it out yet?

Yeah, I started checking out Zabbix today. Is it capable of having a remote active agent that can ping local devices?
