Hey everyone! I just moved into my college dorm, and while the shared Wi-Fi is available, it's incredibly slow—think YouTube at 240p, and constant buffering. Since most of my school work is online, this has been a real hassle, and I can't get traditional internet installed since the dorm doesn't allow any wall installations. There are only power outlets available.
I'm looking for suggestions on routers or hotspots that I could use for my dorm room. Ideally, it should be a one-time payment or a reasonable subscription plan. I don't need it to do much, just enough to cover my phone, laptop, and to play online games on my console with a decent connection, preferably with ethernet support. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Keep in mind that your dorm may simply have bandwidth limitations, which your own router might not fix. But 5G home internet like T-Mobile's could be your best bet for better speeds. Wi-Fi issues in dorms can usually be sorted out if the primary connection is strong enough.
I’d say check for any available ethernet ports in your room first. If you can find one, using a router configured as a bridge is great since dorm Wi-Fi can get pretty crowded and slow. But if they’re all disabled, you might be out of luck for wired options.
You might want to check out T-Mobile's home internet. It’s a pretty solid option for dorms, especially if you're looking for something simple and effective.
Just a heads up, avoid hooking up your personal router directly to the school’s network—it could really mess things up for everyone. If you can access 5G, consider getting a modem like T-Mobile’s. You can usually get a good deal your first year, and it's worth it if you can get decent signal in your room!

Yeah, they might not have even installed them. So frustrating!
