I'm on the hunt for a reliable alternative to VMware for smaller locations, specifically ones that previously utilized ROBO licenses. Has anyone had the chance to work with either SUSE Harvester or Proxmox in such scenarios? I'm particularly interested in insights regarding their stability, cost, and overall usability for daily operations.

I've tried both in smaller setups, and I found Proxmox to be really solid and stable. The best part is that the community edition is free, so it's pretty straightforward to manage your everyday tasks without much hassle. Harvester looks intriguing, but it seems more tailored for Kubernetes-heavy environments. If you're just looking to run a few VMs reliably, I’d definitely recommend Proxmox.
For sure, Proxmox is excellent. But I do kind of miss the golden age of VMware; those were some great times.
Have you considered XCP-NG? It operates similarly to VMware and the migration tool they offer is quite impressive.
I personally lean towards Proxmox. But it would help to clarify what you mean by 'smaller'. Are you talking about three hosts like in VSphere Essentials Plus, a single box, or maybe smaller data center colos? Don't forget there’s also Hyper-V to consider!
