I'm upgrading my GPU for the first time and I could use some advice to ensure everything goes smoothly. I'm moving from an RTX 3060 to a 5070 and since both are Nvidia cards, I'm hoping the process is straightforward. Do I just switch the old card out for the new one, or are there extra steps involved? I've heard that I should uninstall the drivers for the old card first, but I'm concerned about potential issues with the latest Nvidia drivers. Should I wait for those issues to be resolved before doing the upgrade, or is it safe to proceed?

It's definitely a good idea to uninstall your old drivers before swapping GPUs. Check Nvidia's website to confirm if the driver versions are the same for both cards, just to ensure compatibility. That way, you're setting yourself up for a smoother transition.
Upgrading from a 3070 to a 5070 was pretty smooth for me, but I recommend taking a few extra steps. After swapping the GPUs, I used DDU to completely uninstall the old drivers, then did a clean install of the drivers known to be stable for the 5070 (like 576.88). Make sure to keep automatic updates off in the Nvidia app to avoid future issues. My setup has been rock solid since!
Thank you, this is very helpful.
