Hey everyone, I just wanted to share that Bitnami is shifting most of its public container images to a legacy repository that won't receive updates starting August 28, 2025. From that date forward, only a handful of the latest-tag images will remain available for free, and to access full updates and security patches, you'll have to subscribe to their paid tier. For those of us who depend on their images, what are some effective strategies to secure our workloads without resorting to mirroring all their images? I'd love to hear what everyone else is planning to do!

We saw this coming when Bitnami got taken over by Broadcom, so we started moving away from their images a while ago. Now, we don't use any Bitnami stuff at all. It's not just about avoiding the hassle; it just makes sense for us. So, here's a heads up: look for alternatives early on!
Where did you move to for alternatives?
Honestly, my plan might just be to light my hair on fire and run around in the office screaming! But on a serious note, most of our uses for Bitnami are in lower dev environments, and for production, we’re relying more on AWS services like RDS and SQS. We also use Nexus as a pull-through cache for Bitnami images, which might help ease the transition a bit.
We’ve already transitioned away from Bitnami. Here’s what we did: for RabbitMQ, we switched to the official RabbitMQ Cluster Operator, Redis has moved to DragonflyDB Operator, and for ingress-nginx, we switched to the standard ingress-nginx Helm chart. Feels good to be off their stuff now!
Whoa, you really planned that out! Nice!
I'm looking for an alternative to the Bitnami rabbitmq-cluster-operator helm chart. Anyone have recommendations?
You might want to check out the RabbitMQ operator directly. You can actually just use YAML to install it from their site. But yeah, I just realized RabbitMQ is owned by VMWare too—talk about bad luck!
This makes me think we’re using the Bitnami chart for the operator too. Gonna need to rethink that!
The last day to use Bitnami’s images is gonna be wild. Speaking of which, I'm planning on taking my last two days off work right before that. Got a bit of a crazy situation going on here!
Are you getting laid off?
Yeah, fuck Broadcom!
