I've been using my computer for a while now, and I typically enjoy gaming without much demand on the system. However, I've noticed that my graphics card, the RX 6950 XT, gets quite loud during gaming, especially when it hits about 1500 RPM, and it becomes really loud above 2000 RPM. Recently, I checked the driver settings and saw that the GPU hotspot was reaching 112 degrees, which has me concerned. I'm not sure if I should try undervolting it or if this is indicative of a bigger problem with the card. I've been playing an older game called Where Winds Meet, and it seems to cause the GPU to ramp up significantly. Here are my computer specs for reference:
- Ryzen 7800x3d
- 32GB RAM
- RX6950XT Reference
- ASUS X670E-Plus
- AIO Fractal Design Lumen S24 V2
- MSI A1000G power supply
- AOC AG276QZD2 1440p monitor
Also, the GPU is still under warranty, and I have some images of the readings available if that helps.

Don't forget to check the thermal pads, too! AMD’s reference cards sometimes come with thermal pads that aren’t up to par. Repasting with high-quality materials can make a big difference in performance and noise.
Have you tried repasting your GPU? Switching out the thermal paste can lower the temps significantly. I did that with mine and saw a drop from around 95-100C to about 80-85C. You'll want to use something high-quality like the Thermal Grizzly version.
It sounds like you should definitely consider undervolting your card. AMD tends to overvolt their GPUs, so dropping it by about 100mV can help with those temps and noise levels while gaming.
I agree! Undervolting is usually a safe bet with AMD cards. You'll not only get better temperatures but also potentially enhance performance.

I’ve heard of that! What’s the process like for repasting, and do you think it’s worth voiding the warranty?
