What can I do if my Windows 11 laptop won’t shut down properly?

I've been having trouble with my laptop lately; when I try to shut it down, it reaches the 'shutting down' screen but gets stuck there, and nothing happens. The only solution I have right now is to force shut it down, which isn't ideal. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this issue?

Definitely check for updates—both BIOS and Windows updates. Sometimes these issues can be resolved by simply making sure everything's up to date. If you’re having trouble with internet connectivity, try updating while disconnected.

First off, check if the laptop just hangs on the shutdown screen or if it tries to reboot instead. It's a good idea to look for driver updates or BIOS updates on your laptop manufacturer's support site, as this problem can often be related to outdated drivers.

I had a similar experience where my laptop would hang forever on the shutdown screen. I got really frustrated with force shutting it down every time. Eventually, I did a clean install of Windows 10, which fixed the problem for me.

You might want to disable Fast Boot or Fast Startup in your power settings. This setting can cause issues with shutting down properly on Windows 11.
