I'm working for a company that needs to sell some old MacBooks and iPads. Unfortunately, one of the iPads is iCloud locked, and the previous user won't unlock it. To make things worse, we don't have the original receipt since the employee who owned it was fired for watching inappropriate content at a K-12 school. I've tried reaching out to Apple, but without the receipt, there's nothing they can do. I'm wondering if there's any chance I can still sell the iPad or if I should just recycle it instead. I'm definitely not looking to bypass the lock, just options!

Your options are pretty limited, I’m afraid. If you can’t prove ownership of the iPad, it looks like recycling is the way to go. It's a shame because it could still be a functional device!
Honestly, recycling seems like the best way to go here. Apple has harsh policies that often render devices like this just e-waste. Selling it with the lock in place? Good luck!
Is your iPad being managed by an MDM? If so, you can remove the activation lock via Apple’s school management site. If it wasn’t managed, consider investing in something like Jamf for future devices to manage them better and avoid issues like these.
If the iPad was linked to a corporate Apple ID, check with your IT department. They might be able to help reactivate that email long enough to reset the Apple ID and unlock the device. If it’s a corporate purchase, there ought to be some sort of proof of purchase floating around, but if not, it’s probably just worth scrapping at this point.
Yeah, it sounds like verifying with IT might be your only shot. Good luck!
Totally wish we could’ve had that setup from the start. This whole situation is a headache!
