I recently jumped into the IT field because I found it intriguing, but I'm a bit lost regarding the various professions it encompasses. I'm somewhat familiar with roles like networking, programming, and software development, but I'm eager to learn about other positions within the industry. Understanding the landscape better would really help me streamline my learning process.

There are tons of paths you can take in IT! For example, there’s a sales team that works on acquiring new clients, automation testing for APIs/UI, manual testing, DevOps for build and deployment, infrastructure teams for platform setup, and business analysts who document user stories. Choosing one area to dive deep into is a great approach—sounds like you’ve got a good base in development and networking!
The opportunities in IT are super diverse, depending on how teams are structured. For instance, in my large team, we have roles like DevOps engineers, cloud architects, software testers, database managers, front-end and back-end developers, technical writers, and project managers. Essentially, positions can range from planning and designing software to actually building and maintaining it, along with document management and deadline tracking.
When you say 'viable,' are you looking for quick cash (like web development with React/Node and cloud certifications) or something you could enjoy in the long run (like data science or embedded systems)? And do you have any relevant experience or a degree?
You might also want to consider data science or cybersecurity; those fields are really growing and can offer some rewarding opportunities.

I think I’m aiming for a bit of both! I want something that isn’t overly saturated and won’t be completely replaced by AI. I’m studying IT and building small projects. I find programming fun, especially when it works, but I want to learn it thoroughly, which will take time. I really enjoyed networking, particularly with the Cisco lessons, and I also liked setting up backends and databases.
