What Certifications Should I Pursue for a FinOps Career?

I'm looking to transition into a FinOps role since I believe it aligns well with my background in delivery and cost management. I've recently completed the AZ-900 certification, focusing on Azure, and I'm currently studying for the AZ-104 to gain more exposure to the platform. Additionally, I'm waiting to get approval to pursue the FinOps Certified Practitioner and FOCUS Analyst certifications from the FinOps Foundation. My main question is whether these certifications are the right choice to help me land a FinOps position, or if there's something else I should consider. Any insights would be really helpful!

It's worth noting that FinOps is more a practice than a distinct role. Many people in positions like DevOps, Cloud Admins, or Architects also handle FinOps tasks. However, there are companies, particularly in consulting, that do hire specifically for FinOps roles. These are usually project-based positions with major clients. So while the certifications you're pursuing are beneficial, the reality is that you might need to search for roles that combine multiple responsibilities along with FinOps practices.

Exactly! While there are firms hiring for specific FinOps roles, they tend to be more prevalent in consulting. I wouldn't underestimate the value of those certifications, though—they’ll strengthen your overall profile!
