I previously worked as a junior system administrator after spending two years as a help desk tech, and I've recently transitioned to a healthcare IT role. With graduation approaching for my degree in information technology and networking, focusing on cybersecurity, I'm seeking advice on which certifications would enhance my chances in job interviews. How do the CompTIA certs like A+, Network+, and Security+ compare, and should I also consider Azure or AWS certifications?

From my perspective, CompTIA certifications don’t carry much weight if you already have experience. They can help open doors for interviews, but you need to back them up with real knowledge. On the other hand, more specialized certs like CCNA or Azure/AWS can really set you apart from other candidates. It might be worth looking into courses for those, as they seem to have better long-term value.
In my two decades of experience in IT, I can tell you that companies rarely ask for certifications, particularly not the CompTIA ones. My two-year degree has served me just fine. Focus more on gaining practical experience; good character and hands-on skills will get you far more than any cert ever could. Just make sure you're getting opportunities to show what you can do!
I hear you on the experience front! I've been in the same position, and while I’ve missed out on some opportunities due to lack of certs, I think practical skills often push you ahead.
Exactly, I have just one cert after twenty years, but my experience has always spoke louder!
Thanks for the input! I’m really finding the right cert path challenging. The Azure and AWS certifications you mention are definitely on my radar.
