What Comes After the T Series for AWS Instances?

I'm curious about the next step for AWS instance types following the t series. The last Windows-compatible type was the t3a, released on April 24, 2019, and the t4g, which came out on September 14, 2020, is starting to feel outdated. I haven't seen any clear successor, and while the flex series seems too advanced for my needs, I'm not sure which other option could be suitable. Can anyone suggest alternatives?

It really depends on what you're looking for. If you can share more about your use case, that would help in figuring out what might not be fitting and if another instance type could suit your needs better.

You might want to consider the flex instances. They offer a different approach that could work for you, depending on your specific requirements.

Surprisingly, there isn't a direct successor in the lineup, and AWS might not need one from their perspective. It seems like they are focusing on different instance types that fit various use cases rather than just updating the t series.

Just a note, Intel has hit a ceiling with clock speeds in CPUs, so while performance has improved over time, much of it is due to multi-core and multi-threading enhancements rather than raw speed. If AWS were to introduce a t5a or t5g, the improvements would likely be minimal compared to previous versions.

Flex is another option you might explore. It’s designed for varying workloads, unlike the T instances, which are meant for burstable performance.
