Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a new PC since my current one is pretty outdated. Recently, my brother-in-law generously offered me a ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Trinity OC, which is a great help for my budget. Now, I'm looking for advice on what other components I should get to fully utilize the 4070 Ti without running into bottlenecks, all while keeping costs reasonable. I need at least a new CPU and motherboard, and might need a CPU cooler, RAM, and a power supply as well. Here's a rundown of my old components:
- **CPU:** Intel Core i5-9600K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
- **CPU Cooler:** be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler
- **Motherboard:** ASRock Z390 Taichi ATX LGA1151
- **Memory:** Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL15
- **Power Supply:** be quiet! Straight Power 11 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
I was initially considering an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but I'm starting to think it might be overkill. What do you all think? I mainly want to play games like Battlefield 6 and Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p. Thanks!

Great thing you got the 4070 Ti! For a budget build, you can definitely reuse your be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler and your 650W PSU should hold up just fine. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is impressive but consider that a Ryzen 5 7600X could give you similar gaming performance at a lower cost. Go for a B650 motherboard and pair it with 32GB of decent RAM. It's all about balancing performance and price.
How about the 650W PSU? Is that enough with all these new parts?
Nice gift! If you want to future-proof your build, you might want to get a solid AM5 motherboard and maybe a higher wattage PSU, like 750W, to give you some breathing room for future upgrades. The CPUs in the 7000 series, like the 7700X, are a great investment. It's all about what you're willing to spend, but make sure your other components like RAM are up to the task—32GB of 6000MT should do the trick!
Thanks for your thoughts! I'll consider the 7700X for sure.
Just to clarify, what's an AM5 CPU? Is it different from the Intel chips I'm used to?
If you're looking to save some money, you could opt for something like the Ryzen 5 7600X or 9600X. They perform really well at 1440p and shouldn't bottleneck your 4070 Ti. Also, make sure to get some decent RAM like 2x16GB of 6000MHz CL30 for optimal performance. For the motherboard, a B650 or B850 should suffice, but if you want that extra feature set, consider going for an X670.
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll definitely look into those options.
What do you think about using an older CPU like the 9600K? Is that still okay for gaming at 1440p with the 4070 Ti?
Thanks for the input! I’m leaning towards a 7600X now.
