What could be causing slow performance during video rendering on my PC?

Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my PC during video rendering and I'm hoping for some insights. When I export 360 video footage in Premiere Pro, my computer becomes almost unusable. For instance, I can't load more than 10 tabs in my browser, YouTube playback is super choppy, and heavy websites barely open. There's a significant delay when using desktop apps like Steam or Discord – it takes about 4 seconds to respond after I click.

I understand that rendering 8K video on an older setup can be taxing, but task manager shows that I have resources to spare. My CPU usage hovers around 45%, the GPU is at about 80%, and my RAM usage only hits around 70% at most. It's confusing because when I game, I'm able to watch videos on a second monitor and browse without lag.

I'm planning to upgrade my PC and want it to handle 8K video rendering smoothly alongside general tasks like browsing and using apps like Microsoft Teams or Steam. Here are my specs:
- GPU: RTX 2080 Super
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 3950x
- RAM: 64GB Corsair
- SSD: A 512GB WD for the system and a 4TB Samsung drive for storage.

All my drivers are up to date, and I don't have any viruses. My setup is pretty clean, with fewer than 15 apps aside from games. I've even tested other software like DaVinci Resolve and Vegas Pro 21, but I noticed no difference in performance.

So, which components should I focus on for avoiding these issues in my future build? Should I prioritize upgrading the GPU, adding more RAM, or what?

It sounds like your scratch disk is your 4TB SSD, right? One thing you could try is setting the priority in Task Manager to 'Below Normal' while rendering. Another option is using Adobe Media Encoder, which is supposed to be more efficient than rendering directly in Premiere Pro. That might help reduce the overall load on your system.

Yep, I do use the 4TB SSD for that. I should've mentioned I'm already using Media Encoder, but I didn't notice any difference.

Just a thought: when you see your CPU not exceeding 45%, make sure to check the per-core usage. Sometimes there can be one core that’s maxed out, which can lead to those slowdowns you're describing.

Honestly, I think your CPU might be the biggest bottleneck. It’s showing its age, and as a result, your whole system feels sluggish. Upgrading to a more modern CPU could make a significant difference in performance for rendering. A better CPU can handle those processes much more efficiently, especially if you're working with 8K content.

I get that it's older, but it’s tough to reconcile that with the fact that Task Manager shows I’m not fully utilizing my resources. Why is the PC still lagging?
